    Default Stuggling with PETT's from Bexley ~ Births around 1897 - 1900

I am researching my family & was hoping to give a copy as a gift to my great Aunt for christmas - but have uncovered something which i really need to check before I pass the info on.
During the free acess to FMP around the time of the world cup, I found my ggrandfather (JAMES JOSEPH PETT b.1900) on the 1911 census. He is listed living with his parents (James joseph PETT b.1874 & Lizzie S PETT Nee Frazer b.1861) living at 7 Victoria Cotts, Albert Rd, Bexley, Kent.
As part of this census the question regarding how many children born the answer both myself and my great aunt were expecting would be 2 - but on the return it states 3.
I know of a Nellie Pett who never married and moved to brighton in later life, but I am struggling to locate a possible birth for the 3rd child. I have found a birth for a Millie Pett b. 1st quater 1899 d. 2nd quater 1899 - but am not sure this is correct.
I would visit the local parish registers - but as I live on the other side of the country - I would be greatfull if anyone could possibly help me as I really do not want to pass on incorrect info to my g.aunt.
    Thanks in advance
    Clare

    Hi Clare

So let’s work it through and see if we can discover the 3rd child – it is very possible that a child died in infancy – so this is the family in the 1901 Census - so there is "room" for another between Nellie and James Jnr and as Mum and dad marry in 1896 there is also "room for one before Nellie. Also if Lizzie was really so much older than her husband - Could the 3rd child have been born before the marriage??

Sorry for the delay in replying to you
The info above is correct for my family.
You are quite right - the child could pre-date their marriage - only on the 1911 transcript asks for the number of children born to the present marriage.
Any help is most definatly appreciated

Re #4. I have checked back on my other lines of the Pett Family & the Millie you list as daughter of Alfred & Mary would have been a relative to my family living in my family in 1901 at 5 Bourneside. Her father Alfred was a brother to James Pett b.1847 (grandfather to the generation that is giving me trouble).

    Hi CIara

sorry I missed your repIy whiIst researching. GIad we got it good so far.Do you want me to foIIow up on the other famiIy and bring them up to date - I can onIy Iook to 1901 tho. I did a summary check right back and there were very few PETT originaIiy in Kent but they seemed to grow though 1870's onwards- aIthough there are a few spread around in Iondon and Surrey and a coupIe eIswhere.

    Dear CIara
note of caution: If AIfred is the oIder brother to JAMES PETT he is on the 1871 census transcribed as PITT.I had a iook at the originaI and it is very hard to distinguish either writings on the 1871. Therefore I shaII go and have another Iook for NeIIie and MiIIie with the trans cribed name of PITT in KENT to see if this brings up anythiny vaIuabIe.
