Hello banditfivealive
Please post the details of the person etc you require the Will look up for..
Try this site,
hmcourts-service.gov.uk ( prefix www.)
You can visit your local office and search yourself, a copy of the will costs £5 searches are free
Calendars
The only place where there is a complete set of calendars (from 1858) available for public inspection is First Avenue House in London. Most District Probate Registries have calendars covering at least the last fifty years. If you intend to visit a Registry specifically to look at the records, you are recommended to contact the Registry beforehand to check what searching facilities are available and when these are available to the public.
Willfinder
A new computer system is aviailable in some Registries which allows a search for grants issued after 1920. Details of the date or year of death and full name are required. Please telephone the Registry you are intending to visit before you travel to make sure the system is available for public use.

thanks Elsabels for the above - im in work hence the other e - mail - I have looked at the site you mentioned but i was wondering if someone had a subscriptio to ...you know who..
the names are
JOHN COOMBES 1872 CARDIFF SEPTEMBER
I went to the FH fair in Olympia in Feb and the Probate people had a stand and were giving free loolups for wills. the printer was playing up so I idint get a print out. But according to my mag azine the others can print these.. so thats why I asked.
MARTHA J MARTIN 1889 CARDIFFMONTH ?
Hey briII EIsabeIs - thats the chappie - Emma Martin was my gg gran but we have no proven marriage as yet despite searches. Was this a wiII for him or Emma and where did you find it ? and is there a number for it so that when I go to the Probate office I can ask for it? . Ive got a feeIing but I wiii have to check that Sidney Sprods name was on the grave docs.I didnt know why at the time - but if he was the accountant that makes sense. They must have known that John wouId go in the grave first then Emma in 1889 and then her daughter Martha J martin in 1920's I think. Which is why so much was spent on it .
any way tHANKS VERY MUCH

Hi everyone - I have just phoned our probate oiffice in Cardiff hoping to go and make a visit. However becaise of a certain site giving free access to that facilitiy they are overwelmed and are not accepting visits. I have to write in and wait for the info back even if I have the precise details which I have now. What a nusiance is mild language but you get the drift and I may have to wait months. darn hard luck.

The will shown is that of John MARTIN and extracted from
National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations),1861-1941
When searching at the probate office you only need the date of death,an idea of the area the death occurred in, Probate applications do not have to be in the area of death, they advise searching +3 years

Hello banditfivealive
As i cannot find the other 2 names on the listing, it is likely that no will made or grant of probate was obtained, thei would be the case if the estate was small.......
How things vary and change, I visited the Manchester office in April, and had the reader to myself for the morning as did my friend, in fact I would go as far as to say the resource was under used.....not sure which site(s) offer access to the info as free, perhaps you could find and post for other memeres and post, I have it as part of my subscription package.....
