    Default BLACKWELL of Tipperary IRELAND

Looking for the parents of Richard BLACKWELL.

    Richard's info:
    Born 1821 Tipperary Ireland
Immigrated to Canada 1851 to Lucan area (Biddulph Twp) Ontario
Married Mary Anne HODGINS 28 Sep 1855 at St. Pauls Anglican Church
(Officiated by Harry Maynard Witnessed by Henry Hodgins and Mary Hacksaw)
Moved to Kincardine Bruce County in 1878
Died in 1882 and buried in Bervie Anglican Cemetery

I believe he may have had two brothers, John and William.

His children with Mary Anne are:
    William Henry
    Ellen
    George Alexander
    Benjamin
    Alfred
Selina (?? died as a young child)

There is a WMH Blackwell buried in the same cemetery that I cannot trace, could be brother or father or neither, not really sure.

I simply cannot find any information on his existence in Ireland or how he arrived in Canada or with whom he travelled. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,
    weaver

    Default Blackwell's

    Hi Weaver

I am a descendant of Richard Blackwell through George Blackwell (his son). I have no information on Richard's parents or siblings, I would be happy if you would share this info. I am located in Toronto Canada and was born in Walkerton near Bervie.

We have no record of a Selina and I do nmot recall a WMH Blackwell at the Bervie cemetary. How do you fit with the Blackwell familly and where are you?

    Walter

    Hi Walter,

It's Tammy, we have already corresponded regarding this BLACKWELL line. I am just trying to see if anyone else can help. It really seems to be a mystery.
According to the Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid - there is a WMH Blackwell buried at Bervie. It would make sense that Richard's father's name was William Henry, as it was common practice to name your first born after your father.

If anything new comes up, I will let you know.

Hi folks. I am researching George Blackwell b 1802 Tipperary who married Susan Dagg. I have some info on your Richard who may or may not be related. I show his wife Mary Anne Hodgins born 18 june 1829 Borris O KaneTipperary and died 18 Oct 1917 in Portage Du Fort Quebec, where I live. I only have info on 2 of the children, George Alexander and Benjamin. I don,t have any info on Richards parents but I have several hundred Blackwells in my files and they may be there somewhere. My ggg grandfather George had 10 children and one of his sons, John b 1831 moved to Bruce County as there were other Blackwells there already. I have tons of data on the George Blackwell side and may have something on your Richard. However my files are in boxes as we just moved. Feel free to contact me by pm if you have any questions. Mean while I,II do some further reseaech.

    Default Richard Blackwell

Further to my post of yesterday, I found some info on Richards wife,s parents in Bruce Elliotts book "Irish Migrants in The New Canada" ISBN 0-7735 -0607-1 This is an excellant history of the Tipperary Irish and their lives in Canada. The Blackwells and Hodgins are mentioned in detail.
