    Question Williamina ROBIN mystery child?

    Hello fellow researchers,
    Do you have a mystery child or person in your family?

    In the 1901 SCT census:
    Glasgow, SCT St. George in the Fields
    William ROBIN.....................Head [ have doc records] 1874-1963
    Helen " .....................Wife " 1876-1915
    Helen J.N." .....................Dau " 1898-1913
    Williamina" ..................... " [no birth/death records?] age on census could be 4mths, 14 mths
    or 14 yrs old very hard to read too many cross marks?
    Was she really a daughter, helper or relative of the family? Or possibily did she die with no record?]

    Where is sweet Williamina ROBIN?
    Who was she?
    How old was she?

    I have several birth records for Williamina that I went out-of-the-box for. Thought maybe Helen 'Nellie' Burns may have had a brother? Maybe making too much of this? What are your thoughts?
    Maybe she died very young and her birth and death were never registered?
    "...if I don't make haste, I shall have to go back through the looking-glass...back into the old room-and there'd be an end of all my adventures!"

    Sending my 'curiouser & curiouser' happy thoughts through the looking-glass.

    No success so far. The census image says daughter clearly and her entry is last so it is likely the age is 4 months. Have searched all Robin (and Robins) births and have found nothing. Even (unlikely) if she was someone else's child the birth record should show up.
    In fact I am having just the same problems as you have experienced.

    Thank you Hazelnut! I had searched that too and several other similar names. Did not however know the parents. Infact I went crazy on Scotland's People sereaching almost any Williamina. She, I think will remain my sweet Williamina mystery girl. She may have been a child of a liason. I have found that my grandfather receiving a substantial inheritance at age 18, 21 and 40 was quiet a, shall we say 'playboy'. He was a handsome tall man with money and lived the high life traveling coming from two affluent families-Robin & Neilson. My mom knew this from stories from her Aunt Kitty my grandfather's sister. There was a terrible scandle [don't know the details] by Victorian terms probably today no one would care.

    Thank you, Gillian!

    Yes, I was thinking she had to be 4 months old. Well she will be my Sweet Williamina mystery girl; but at least she is thought of after all these years! I found this poem on my travels and when I think of some of my ancestors I find these words comforting. Even though I don't know the burial places just finding their names on the census and other records is still fact that they lived.

    Dear Ancestor

    * * * * * * Your Headstone stands among the rest,
    * * * * * * Neglected and alone
    * * * * * * The name and date are chiseled out
    * * * * * * On polished,marble stone.

    * * * * * * It reaches out to all who cares
    * * * * * * It is to late to mourn.
    * * * * * * You did not know that I exist
    * * * * * * You died and I was born.

    * * * * * * Yet each of us are cells of you
    * * * * * * In flesh,in blood, in bone.
    * * * * * * Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
    * * * * * * Entirely not are own.

    * * * * * * Dear ancestor the place you filled
    * * * * * * One hundred years ago
    * * * * * * Spreads out among the ones you left
    * * * * * * Who would have loved you so.

    * * * * * * I wonder if you lived and loved,
    * * * * * * I wonder if you knew
    * * * * * * That someday i would find this spot
    * * * * * * And come to visit you.

    Did William Robin leave a will I wonder? Wills sometimes throw some light on family mysteries
