    Default Catherine Moore nee McGinn

    Hello Lady Marion,

I am trying to locate Catherine Moore nee McGinn on a census return earlier than 1861.

In 1859 she married James Moore. At the time they were both living on Gerard Street in Liverpool. Her father's name on the marriage certificate is given as Henry McGinn, occupation shoemaker.

She shows up on the 1861 census with her husband James at Class: RG9; Piece: 2654; Folio: ; Page: ; GSU roll: 543007 and again in 1881 at Class: RG10; Piece: 3814; Folio: 104; Page: 34; GSU roll: 841911.

I haven't found her later so I am assuming she died sometime after the 1881 census. I would like to find her pre-marriage to James.

Any help you can give is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Elsabels and Lady Marion.

I think in order to connect with this Henry, I would have to find the family in 1851 to see if Catherine is also listed with the family. Considering Henry was born in 1850 in Liverpool, they should be there somewhere, shouldn't they? Do you have a suggestion?

    I appreciate all your efforts!

thankyou..gif Elsabels - I appreciate all your efforts. This family has me swimming in circles! I don't have much in the way of family stories to help break through the brick walls. Perhaps the Henry you found is her father??? Catherine says she was born in Ireland. But...trying to find her before her 1859 marriage has not been easy!

    Again, thanks for your help.

    Hi Kptz

Using Sarah’s details to search, I found the following entry in the 1851 Census.

The original census record is difficult to read and the details for the daughter transcribed as Reth 10 – could be 16. I wonder if this could be your Catherine. Maybe worth you checking it out as the other details look consistent with your McGinn’s. The son Henry could be 10 months not 10 years - there is definately a mark over the 10 and as he is listed last I would hesitate to suggest that this is very likely!

    1851 Census

    Name: Sarah McGuin
    Age: 8
    Estimated birth year: abt 1843
    Relation: Daughter
    Father's Name: Henry McGuin
    Mother's Name: Betty McGuin
    Gender: Female
    Where born: Ireland
    Civil parish: Liverpool
    Town: Liverpool
    County/Island: Lancashire
    Country: England
    Registration district: Liverpool
    Sub-registration district: Howard Street

    Household Members:

    Name, Age
Henry McGuin, 38 – Ireland Shoemaker
    Betty McGuin, 30 - Ireland
    Reth McGuin, 10 - Ireland
    Sarah McGuin, 8 - Ireland
    Henry McGuin, 10 – Liverpool

Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece: 2178; Folio: 179; Page: 16; GSU roll: 87175-87176.

Thanks Elsabels - having looked at the original of the 1851 Census again today with fresh eyes - the entry for the daughter transcribed as Reth - is actually "Kitty" - often used as a short form of Catherine!
