    Default Where is Daniel Hogan???

I am desperatly trying to obtain a birth certificate for Daniel but have tried every which way and am coming up with a blank each time , i hit a brick wall with a mighty bang !!!

If anyone can please help it would be very much appreciated .

On 1911 census its states Daniel Hogan as age 5 , son of Daniel and Sarah Ann Hogan (nee Kay)

But what is confusing is that "Where born" it states . .... Scottish Hamilton Resident??

I have tried Scotlandspeople and the only Daniel Hogan is coming up with different parents, also tried English BMD and no luck again.

Daniel Snr was born at Castle Eden and Sarah in Wigan , as he was a miner i assume they may have been there because of his work , because by 1911 they are back in Wigan again .

I'm at a loss as to what to do now

    Thank you .

Perhaps he was registered without a first name, as just Male Hogan? Do you know when his parents married? He might have been illegitimate and registered under his mother's maiden name.

His parents were married in Bellshill Lanark in 1896, i have looked under every combination of name i can think of! .... just surname , changing the christian & surname name slightly .

Not sure I can be of further help, I don't have any experience of Scottish records. Is it possible he's been misindexed? I've had examples of that in English bmd indexes - in fact less than 10 years ago my sister-in-law's maiden name in the marriage index was recorded as Searce when it should have been Pearce!

Perhaps Hogan has become Morgan, or Hagan or some other variant?

    Hi leta,

I have seen records such as "Scottish Hamilton Resident" on baptism records where the child was baptised outside of his/her parish of birth. The parents may have been able to remember this when filling in the census but not the parish of birth. At first I thought this was odd, but maybe the birth was in a relatives house and they just didn't know the parish.
I will take a look later but cannot promise anything. It depends how many Daniel Hogan's were born around that time.

Hi thank you all for you help and suggestions , i do appreciate it . This one is so frustrating !!! its driving me mad. If i didn't have his marriage cert and his name on census i'd swear he didn't really exsist

He had a half brother John ( he was born in 1889 to Sarah before she married Daniel Hogan Snr in 1896 )

Its made all the harder because i have absolutly no family members to ask.

I have looked under both Scottish and English birth records in so many different connotations, this brick wall is getting higher and higher !!!!

He is certainly proving to be a challenge .

Leta, It might be an idea if you put a new thread under The Scottish Counties post.
