Hi, COuld anybody help me trace info on my Wife's father:
Leslie Gordon Green, He was born in the London area (i believe) in 1929. He died on 17th May 1976 in Grimsby.
I am trying to find his full birth date and parents names to order a birth certificate.
Sorry I am completely new to genaeology so any pointers would be gratefully received.

Hi, You need those when you fill out the form for the birth certificates. Is there any members of family or friends that could help you find out any information, like aunts , uncles, cousins etc, it would narrow down your searches to find the right parents.
Also you might get info from his marraige certificate .

Also, when you have all your information and you ready to send for your certificates you can order them online from one of the family history sites or like myself I always order my certs from the registry office from the place where they were born or married or died (you dont need any page or ref numbers then but obviously it helps if you do have them) Just a bit of info for you to keep in mind.

    Hello
You may find this site of interest for looking up where a birth, marriage, death, has occurred

Freebmd.org.uk ( prefix www.) This should only be used as a guide!

    Events are recorded in four calendar 1/4, i.e Jan - Mar/Apr-Jun/Jul - Sept/ Oct - Nov....the first events occuring in Sept 1837

If the event is at the end of one 1/4 i.e 30 September then it is likely to be registered in the following 1/4

Reistration Offices are local to an area, each office has an event code and reference number of the certificate

Certs can be ordered form GRO.gov.uk and cost £9.25 each.....

Once you have established your family you can then look at the 1911 census to identify them , moving back on a sismilar principle.

Take advantage of the free trial offered by research sites, REMEMBER to cancel your credit card details if you do not want ot continue with the site......

Purchasing a birth certificate will show the mothers name, maiden if married and IF there is a father together with any other info...have alook at your birth and marriage cert to see what info you get!

Usually identifying the person's birth and marriage are the processes undertaken ( death brings closure to the persons entry on a tree) no pun intended

Always check info given to you so YOU are satisfied that it is correct and fits in with other known facts

POST / Shout for further help

    Good hunting

I assume you know your wife's mothers maiden name. So you could start by ordering the Marriage Cert. This will show his father's christian name. If don,t know how to look up the marriage reg using the two surnames post both on this thread and someone look for you.
