    Default which Thomas Hillier??????

    Hi everyone,

would anybody be able to help me please, My G.G.Grandad Thomas Hillier lived in Manchester -was a Tailor by trade- was married to Ellen e. Howell and also died in Manchester I think but, I have been trying to find which is the correct birth for him so I can order a birth cert. The only snag is 1 census says he was born in Devizes Wilts 1841 and another census says he was born in Pewsey Wilts 1841. Iv been searching through numerous sites for over a yr now but Im none the wiser. There are 2 entries on FreeBMD and WiltsBMD one born June 1841 and one born Sept 1841 -then to top it all off there is an entry on Anc which says a Thomas Hiller was born in March 1841....are you keeping up!!!!!! Its a nightmare
I even bought the marriage cert which said his father was called George and I thought bingo! Iv cracked it, all I have to do is order the two birth certs from June & Sept and who ever has the father on named George thats the one But, 1) they could both have George on them 2) the other entry in March with a father named George on it left me even more confused. I cant really afford to but all 3 certs and if they all have father on named George Im still left wondering which one is my GG Grandad....Can anyone please help?
    Thankyou

I found your Thomas on the 1881 census living at 14 Daisey Street Hulme Manchester. It states he is a Tailor. Wife Ellen and children Frederick, William, Harriett, Eleanor, Mary Alice and Elizabeth E. It states he was born in Pewsey Wiltshire.

The other Thomas Hillier born in Wiltshire is an Ag Laborer and it says his wife is Elizabeth and he was born in Granham Wiltshire.

I then did a search on the 1881 census for Thomas Hillier birth in Wiltshire year ranges 1839 to 1843 and there are only 6 entries and only one is living in Lancashire and the one from Pewsey is the only Tailor.

This information I found on IGI. Hope it helps.

In 1871 Thomas Hillier, Tailor, was living in 54 Edge Street, Hulme. Place of birth Pewsey Wiltshire. Also in the same household was his wife Ellen and sons, Frederick and William George plus Ellen's mother and sister, Harriet and Elizabeth Howell. All tailor/ess.

This is the only reg for a Thomas Hillier in Pewsey I could find.

    Hi Noggin 28,

Thankyou so much for all the info you have looked up I really appreciate it. have you specially looked this up for me or is the Hillier family connected to yourself?
I'm still a bit bit confused as to which Thomas Hillier it could be but it's looking like the Pewsey one may be favourite. I'll dig a bit deeper but will let you know when I find anything-it'll be like winning the lottery ha ha ha.

    Thanks Noggin28

Looks like Kezia(h) died giving birth to Thomas.
If it was me I would gamble on the Thomas born 1841 Pewsey.
