    Default William John Sumner

Hi there, I am looking William John Sumner born 1885 in Australia, his parents William Sumner & Mary Jane Howe (both from England) married in Australia then moved to New Zealand around 1902.

William John got into a bit of trouble in NZ, and was sent back to Australia, no one heard from him ever again.
I would like to know if there are any descendants of William John out there.

    William and Marys children were
    William John B: 1885
Richard Howe b: 1887 My grandfather
    May Elizabeth b: 1888
    Louisa Catherine b: 1893
    Ivy Edith B: 1895
    Violet Evelyn b: 1897
    Francis (Frank) b:1900
    Bert
    Reginald

You don't state what state in Australia he came to but I have found a death in New South Wales for a William John Sumner in 1948 aged 64 years so the age factor is correct. Registration No. 20903/1948 States 64 years Glen Davis but registered Portland no parents mentioned. I could not find a marriage for him between 1900 and 1959 as I looked further than that death date in case it is not him.

Portland is in the Lithgow area Glen Davis is a small village in the area where they used to mine shale oil between 1938 and 1952.

The family were in Gympie Queensland, before going to New Zealand, but Bill could have ended up anywhere when he came back to Australia. He was very hurriedly put on the first ship available to Australia. It is a good possibility, he did not go back to Queensland, as there was no family left there.
