Thread: Llewellyn S Parsons-look-up needed please

Hi all,

Is there a kind soul out there who wouldn't mind doing a look-up for me please?

The person in question is Llewellyn S Parsons. He appears on the New York Passenger Lists 1820-1957. I can't get any more info than that, other than he arrived in New York.

A Llewellyn Parsons also appears on the same list -is it the same person?

Would really appreciate if someone could find out his year and place of birth and any other information please.

Many thanks for your reply! Yes, I think that is the one I requested, but unfortunately not the person I was after!

I'm tearing my hair out with my husband's great-grandfather, Llewellyn Perkins!

He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1910 and we have him on the 1911 census in Nova Scotia. (Although he enlisted and is down on the census as Llewellyn Patice Perkins).

We know he came back as we have him on the electoral roll in 1947 living with his brother and he died in 1951 in a mental asylum. All his children were alive but nobody went to claim his body.

I have tried tracking him down on passenger lists, but to no avail. Do you have any suggestions as to what else I can try?

I have the same problem with my mother's father. He married in England but his marriage certificate gives his place of birth as Sag Island, USA. A signaller in the 72nd Canadian Infantry. My mother's birth certificate shows him as being in the Royal Canadian Corps of signals. I cannot find him or my grandmother on any passenger lists. My mother and grandmother returned to England and on my grandmother's second marriage certificate it say widow of .......... Again I cannot find them on passenger lists.

I wonder if the forces and their families went in different ships to the public and were recorded elsewhere or if these dates have not been transcribed yet.


I am sorry, I do not have any suggestions but hope there is someone that does. I have been looking for 20 years without success and my tree is lop-sided to say the least.

He was actually born in December 1872, but when he enlisted in the RCN (in Plymouth), he gives his year of birth as 1877 (he sticks to this on the Canadian census). He went over on the HMS Niobe, which became one of the 1st ships of the Royal Canadian Navy.

I am only assuming that he deserted the RCN while in Canada, but how he got back, who knows?!

He was born in Wales, but when he enlisted, he said Plymouth! But I think he's forgets himself a bit because he puts his ethnic origin as Welsh on the Canadian census!

That's why I asked his age. I came across one born in Wales but will have to go back and see where I found it now. I am sure it wasn't on a census.

The one I mentioned was not yours as he went over with his parent and siblings as a child. I will have another look as soon as I can but it may not be until after the weekend.
