Thread: Henry James Tindall

Somehow I need to find the age of Henry who married Jun 1906 Hastings before I order the certificate.I am trying to trace Henry James Tindall born 01 Oct 1870 Stepney.I ordered a marriage cert for a Henry James who married Jun 1897 Woolwich but wrong age and wrong father.No longer being able to include fathers name on the order is hard on the pocket book.
I have my Henry James/Henry J/James living in Brixton with parents Edward and Rosina in 1881/91.

You could phone the Hastings area Register Office and ask them if they could let you know the age and then order the cert from them if its the right one. Sometimes local register offices can be very helpful.

How many alternative Henry Tindalls are there?

Do yiou have him on the 1901 census at all or is he missing. Do you have the rest of the fmaily? what did he do for a profession? perhaps someone can then locate him on 1901 which might give some clues.

I could not find him in1901 and a quick look in 1911 showed nothing.Of course that does not mean that he is not there..

I seem to recall seeing him on the 1891 census as James Hackney Carriage ( Groom)

Have you found any of the family ( if there are any) on the 1911census

I cannot pick him up on the 1901 filtered searches...so wondered if he had wandered!

The two most obvious marriages (1897,1906) are not the my Henry James.Now the hunt really begins.

As neither of us can find Henry James TINDALL ( k/a JAMES ) in the UK after 1891 maybe we need to consider other options, do you have any more info on this guy other than what you have on the 1881 /1891 census returns,

I am thinking emigration / death / dare I say it prison etc.

I have found his mother and a brother in 1901 and checked freebmd for a death but no luck.That leaves emigration and jail but my ancestors seem to be honest God fearing upstanding citizens but there is always room for a black sheep in the closet.No different than any other family.
