I am trying to locate the origins of William and Mary Ann DAVIS from Bristol who immigrated to Australia in 1849. They had a daughter in Melbourne later that year called Theana. William is shown on Theana's baptism record as a cordwainer. They must have moved to Tasmania at some stage as Theana married Francis WARD in Launceston, Tasmania in 1878 and their marriage certificate states she was "living with her parents". Francis was a successful miner and prospector believed to be from Ireland. From their marriage in 1878 I have all their records and photos, but nothing prior to this time on either the WARD or DAVIS side. It is driving me insane. Any assistance/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Is this the Mary Ann b1818 & William b1814 you refer to, if so do you mean they were from Bristol but sailed from Plymouth? Was Theana an only child or did they take some children with them from the UK? Going on the dates of birth and time of arrival in Australia they could have married anytime between 1838 & 4Q 1848.

On the same boat was a Philip Davis could he have been a brother? Might help your search for William.
