Default Frustrating Fletcher Who Was A Mariner

    Me again!!

    Good afternoon all,

Does anyone have any ideas how I might trace a Mariner other than general searches.

Catherine Fletcher b1850 (approx) in Chelsea, she married in 1877 to Frederick Collins.

Her father was William Fletcher a mariner.

I can find nothing on any census returns for 1851 or 1861 for William and Catherine. I figured maybe he was at sea, but since I can not find a christening on any site for Catherine, I can not search for her mother. (Although, I have found Catherine daughter of Ann as an Inmate, but no way of veryfying or denying the connection.

If he was a Mariner does that mean he was in the Navy? I searched manually for both people, using the info I have, but there were alot of William Fletcher's who were in the navy or seamen. Obviously there is the added complication that he may of used a different name on the census.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

    Erika
