Thread: Bass Family

Yes it is me again, so sorry to ask for more help, but this line of my tree seem to be decidedly annoying.

Lucy Bass was born 1837 christened 12/11/1837 to Joseph and Mary Bass.

Here is the conundrum...

Lucy is not on any census with Joseph and Mary Bass in 1841 or 1851.

However, there is a family of Bass's living in Hackney during this time.

Joseph and Sarah Bass...I have check all of the children listed and all of them were born to Joseph and Sarah Bass in Hackney. I can not find their listed daughter Lucy though.

All of the children older than Lucy can be found in the baptisms for Joseph and Sarah...except William and Lucy. There is no entry for William b 1832.

I found a marriage for Joseph Bass and Sarah Skeg 13/8/1826 Spitlefields which ties in to the visitor they have in 1841 John Skeg.

Is this likely to be Lucy's family? Her mothers name entered incorrectly for some reason?

Where was lucy born/baptised Erika ?

Hi Erika,

Don't forget that a lot of people tended to use their middle name on the census. The oldest child could be base born and the birth found under the mother's maiden name.

I have not found anything under Skeg for Lucy, thought I would check given your comment Starlight.

I did have a look back and see if I could find Sarag Skeg with a middle name of Mary anywhere, but nothing as yet.
