Default William Candrick - Skipping Champion

    Hi

This is a bit of a shot in the dark. but you guys are brilliant so I have every hope

A distant relative of mine has asked...

Could you help with William Candrick from Pontlottyn, he was a skipping champion. We understand that he went to Cardiff & did about 12,000 revolutions. We have been told that a story appeared in a newspaper (it may have appeared in a Cardiff paper or even one in Merthyr Tidfil).

We don't know when it was but are guessing it was around 1910 before he married.
He used to to run up the hill at the back of Pontlottyn where he had a 'skipping stone and practice'.

I know that in 2012 the National Library of Wales is making a lot of newspapers available online but was wondering in the meantime if anyone had any suggestions.

    Thanks

    Hi Glojo,

Is the information below of any help?

    Births December Quarter 1851

Candrick William, Crickhowell Vol 26 Page 305 refers.

    Births March Quarter 1885

Candrick William, Merthyr T. Vol 11a Page 514 refers.

    Marriages Decenber Quarter 1910

Candrick William, Merthyr T. Vol 11a Page 1207 refers.

The above marriage would appear to have been to either Lily F. Way, or Alice H. Phelps.

    Hi there,

I had a search online and was unable to come up with anything for you. It might be worth having a look though at what local papers were in existance at the time of your Skipper being a Champion.

You might be lucky if you find a small local paper that is still running today, you could try contacting them and asking if they have archives etc, you never know might get a helpful kind bod on the end that has a look for you.

    Good luck.

    Erika
