Default Emigration to france fron england

Can anyone point me in the right direction with regard to finding out about emigration to France during the 1900s ?

I am trying to determine if a certain Vera Saffra (in her teens) from Tottenham, Middlesex went to France as a governess in the mid 1900s.

I cannot find her in the usual ship passenger lists. I am trying to find a web site which deals with french immigration/emigration.

    Can anyone help please ?

    Hiya

I just saw on Ancestry.co.uk that they have updated the site with French records. I tried to have a look for you, but, I do not have a WorldWide subscription so can only offer the info.

Could be worth a shot to look on there.

    Good luck

    Hi there.

I've been trying to send you an attachment of the Saffra sisters baptism, but I've not been able to:

I came across the Baptism of:

Vera Henrietta Saffra, she was born 14th Dec 1891 and
Baptised at St. Anns in Tottenham, Haringey on 14th Feb 1892 (St. Valentine's day)
The family were living at: 2 Commercial Terraces.

Pauline Caroline Saffra b. 3rd July 1893 was also Baptised at the same church on 20th. August 1893. The family home was 166 St. Ann's Road.

Their parents were Lillian and George. George was a Tobacconist.

I looked out for the French connection, but to date have not come across it.

The family were on the 1901 census but could not find Vera or Pauline on 1911...I did find their father George b.1864 living in Edmonton Middlesex, also in Edmonton was these Saffra people:
    Bernard b.1900
    Doris b. 1907
    Ena b. 1909
    Martha b. 1882..

Could George have remarried to Martha and these were their children, or are they his Grandchildren?

I found George on the 1891 Census, his future wife Lilian Smith was listed as a visitor. They married not long after at All Hallows in Tottenham on 13th July 1891. Lilians father was Jeffery possibly a Drill Master..

George's father died before George married, his name on the marriage cert was Ivan Saffra and he was listed as a musician. The 1891 Census shows Ivan's name as John b.1850 Germany and wife Ruth b. 1849 also Germany.

Sorry, I'm getting carried away with this.......

    Tralena.
I would like to thank you very much for all of this information.
You know. I do have most of the information you kindly supplied.
But it is Vera Henrietta Saffra who bugs me. I just can't get a handle on her.
She is hand written in the 1911 census by her father and then scored out. This scored out bit is "Governess in France". She was not at the 166 St Ann's Road residence. Hence it's been scored out by the census taker.
...and she is not mentioned in her father's will of 1922.
All his other living children are mentioned in his 1922 will.

    Thank you Tralena.
