Thread: farms in Dudleston Shropshire 18141/1871

Hi all, I am trying to find out about a Thomas Hughes and son Edward who lived and worked a farm(s) in Dudleston/Ellesmere,Shropshire before 1841 and up to at least 1881. The address of the farm in 1881 census given as
'THE FIRS' Ellesmere Shropshire. In 1871 as '72 RHOSYDIAN' Tipton St Martins. In 1861 as 'THE CIED' Ellesmere Shropshire and in 1851 as 'CALAH' Dudleston Shropshire.
If any one can help with any information regarding these addresses I would be so grateful.

Try the local area Record Office....ww.shropshire.gov.uk/archives.nsf

If you look at the *census book you should be able to find a desc of the enumerators 'walk / patch' this will assist in locating the place in Ellesmere.

*On ancestry open the record page you will find next to 'Return to record' the following Staffordshire > Stoke upon Trent > Shelton > District 14 > 12
click on the district and follow through!

Hi,
I've been doing my family tree for ages and have just dug all my files out again. I'm just going through everything and tying up loose ends here and there. One of those loose ends was the Hughes family and their farms. Looking at old-maps.co.uk, I think the farm in 1861 might be Caia farm. If you look at other nearby properties, they seem to match. On the 1851 census, I can't really make out the handwriting but I do wonder if it is the same farm.
