    Default Occupation help needed

My Grandfather Bert (Bertie) Blows was born in Royston, Hertfordshire in 1885 and on his WW1 SERVICE PAPERS it showed him being a policeman in the 2nd Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment when he enlisted in 1903, how do I go about looking up what he actually did?

    Regards to all

    Liam

    Hello

Have you tried the Regiment on line site?
they may have a contact unit that can assist you further with your ancestors career, particularly if he was given a pension.

    Hi Liam,

From what you say it sounds as though he was a member of the Regimental/Battalion Police, which means he would have been dealing with disciplinary offences and maintaining order within the battalion (dealing with drunkenness, rowdiness etc).
More serious 'criminal' cases would have been dealt with by the Military Police.

    Hi Liam

I would agree, check with the regiment/batallion he was in. I did this when I discovered my great grandfather served during WW1. You will at least get pointed in the right direction. Some Brigades had diaries, so you will be able to find out more detailed info regarding his postings.

    Hope this helps
