Hello I am doing my family tree and i have got up to a Betsey Eliza 1783 Married to Ambrose Pitt 1781 and then got stuck! I would really like any ones help that can give me some!

I know they had a few kids!

Would like to try and find out about his parents and her family, also find out the death's that i have not got on my family tree!

also noticed their children were born St. Marys, Portsea Hampshire , was Eliza Ann Green born before marraige ? also her youngest daughter has a different surname? maybe Betsey Eliza is called Green/Passingham!

On surnames begining P there are 2 threads for PITT , maybe of help to you, but the threads are not new .

Not much joy, but there are 2 researchers of this family on ancestry.co.uk.* Both have tagged Tabitha Dorcas Passinham nee PITT on the 1851 census.

neither has any info before that you already have, other than ELLEN BETSEY / BETSEY ELIZA maybe the surname is Betsey is desc as deceased at 06/02/1837. This date is before BMD was introduced in July 1837, therefore you will need to look at the Bishop's Transcript ( BT) or Parish regeisters.www.genuki.co.uk ( a free to use site)

OK, I have looked at the entry on familysearch.org and note the mother is Betsey /Betsey Eliza, it appears you now need details of Betsey's surname and her marriage to take the next step back.



As this isn't shown on familysearch, it is likley that the information hasn;t been extracted form the BT's or Parish records, therefore the only way is to look at the original documentaion on fische.

This can be done at the record office covering the area or if you have a local LDS centre near you, you will be able to order the fisches in, ( it was a free service)



In the meantime, I would get copies of the relevant baptism entries from http://www3.hants.gov.uk/archives.htm you may be surprised at the info gleaned form the original source

Noticed on Banditfivealives answer it shows Tabitha born in Portsmouth , so maybe you should look there., they obviously moved from portsea to portsmouth. As Elsabels says, relevant baptism copies would give you answers you need.
