I need to know where I was born. I was always told I was born at Hatfield House but my sister thinks it was Brockett Hall. If I buy a full birth certificate would it give my place of birth? My parents are no longer alive so I can't ask them.

Your birth certificate will give your place of birth. Both Brocket Hall and Hatfield House are in Hertfordshire so you can apply to the GRO giving this info and the date of your birth they should be able to supply the information. What do you normally put on forms as your place of birth?

I usually put Hatfield on forms. I've only recently been told of my real birth place. I think I'm going to phone GRO today. Thanks for replying to my post.

Thank you very much, Elsabels. You have been very helpful. I have never been able to find any information on my sister before. Do you think it would be useful to me if I order her death certificate?
Let me know if I can do anything to help you i.e looking things up.
Hello Amalie
That is a difficult question to answer...if it were me I would have the basic info to put on the tree, then at some later point I would probably revisit it when I was more able to deal with what ever is shown on the birth / death cert! life can be cruel particularly where the young are concerned!
Sometimes it is a case of conditioning yourself to finding what you thought as maybe.... in this case an older 'unknown' / not talked about sibling .....suddenly becomes reality....
Hope this helps!
Elsabels
Your sister's death certificate will give her birthdate and place but the information will only be as good as the person informing. My grandfather's death cert has 3 mistakes on it.
