Thread: Help with census transcription

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help please.



I'm looking at an image from the 1861 census of a Samuel Bunn, b. 1816 in Weston, Norfolk. For occupation, it says ?keeper, but I can't work out what it says exactly. Is there anyone who can decipher it please? In 1851 he was a shop keeper, but he's now at a different address, and it definately doesn't say shop to me!

I think it says Inkeeper and probably means Inn keeper. If you look at the address in the left-hand column it says "Johnson Street Dog Inn".

Thank you so much for your replies. That makes sense as in 1871, his wife is listed as licensed victualler of same pub. I didn't even think to look in the address column! Lol!

Thanks very much for the census info. What's really strange is that the youngest daughter was born in the village in which I grew up!

Hi

I've had a look at this image and the occupation looks like Innkeeper. In the address line it reads - Johnson Street, Dog Inn.
