Hi can anyone point me in the right direction to a good site for newspaper articles? im looking for my great nans sister who was born in Pontefract in 1924 and died in 1942 aged 18 to which i believe she drowned which i would like to find out more info about.

Ive tried searching google etc but im new to this and cant seem to find much.

Hi Rachel, try the local papers of where it happened, your local studies library should help you, all you have to do then is look up the date of the accident .

Its unlikely you'd find anything online.



I'd suggest as a starting point that you get her death cert which will tell you when and where she died and what the cause of death was. It will also tell you if there was an inquest. IF there was an inquest that would be reported in the local paper which should be in the relevant county archives. You'd have the date from the death cert so a search should be relatively simple and you'd just need to pay for the photocopying.



But if she died accidentally and there was no inquest - and I note her death was during wartime - there might not be much at all.



My great aunt died in 1900 after she was knocked down by a runaway horse and the only mention is a one-line death notice in the local paper.
