Hi There, could anyone help with this problem, we have been trying to find some information on our Grt/Grt/ grandad Thomas hillier, he was born in 1841 in Devizes/Wiltshire we seem to have come to a stumbling block, what we are trying to find is his parents names, and any siblings, the only thing my sister found was a workhouse I think it was about 1851,and there was a william hillier there too age 13yrs,just cannot find anything on him at all,his wife was called Ellen and our Grt gran, was Eleanor Hillier and they were all it seems in the tailoring profession,They were then in the Chorlton area of M/C, can anyone throw any light on this for us, Thankyou,

    Hi Valjay,

Is he the one that on the 1891 census has him born in Pewsey with the wife Ellen E Hillier born Bath Somerset and living in Manchester ? If so, this could be his birth but so far I cannot find him in 1851. If he is not the one I mentioned in 1891, this may not be him.

    BIRTHS Apr-May-June 1841

    HILLIER Thomas

    Pewsey 8 395

Pewsey comes under the Devizes registration district

    Hi Valijay,

This looks as though it might be their marriage. This might be a better bet to find his father.

    Hi Valijay,

This could be him in 1861. Burbage is also in the Devizes registration district. Burbage was transfered from the Pewsley district in 1936, so must have been near. There is only one Thomas Hillier birth on Free BMD between Mar 1838 and Dec 1841. The occupation fits.
