    Hi Pauline,

I think I have John and Mary Mack on the 1901 census of Scotland. Unfortunatley, images are not available, but they are living at 6 Lennox Row, Leith North, Leith, Midlothian. According to this, John was born in Berwick, Cockburnspath c. 1852.

Here he is with his family in 1861:

    Thomas Mack 51

    Eliza Mack 38

    Jane Mack 11

    John Mack 9

    Jessie Mack 8

    Eliza Mack 6

    Again in 1871:

    Thomas Mack 60

    Eliza Mack 49

    Jane Mack 21

    John Mack 19

    Jessie Mack 18

    Eliza Mack 16

    Margaret Mack 9

    Josephina Mack 6

    In 1881:

    Thomas Mack 70

    Eliza Mack 58

    Jane Mack 5

    John Mack 29

    Eliza Mack 26

    Josephine Mack 16

    And 1891:

    Eliza Mack 69

    John Mack 39

    Josephina Mack 26

    Jane Mack 41

    Eliza Mack 35

I'm not sure if this has been of any help.

Hi mrsp and elsabels, That's brilliant. Thank you both so much for your help. I have got John's wife's sibblings as one death in Shrewsbury and one in Shropshire from the BMD site. As these two never married I did think that they'd have £££'s

At least now I have John's parents and sibblings to add to the branches

I never thought of checking out Mary's sibblings will's. How would I find this out? Sorry if that's a dumb question to ask.

Regards and thank you once again to you both for your help.

    Pauline.

    Hi starlight,

Thankyou I found some of John's sibblings births and christenings on the IGI. I did wonder if John's mother's maiden name

was Turnbull, seems like you have confirmed it.

    Hello Pauline1

A trip to Manchester is in order!

    Manchester

    Manchester District Probate Registry

    Civil Justice Centre

    Ground Floor

    1 Bridge Street West

    PO Box 4240

    Manchester

    M60 1WJ

    Tel: 0161 240 5702

    http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/cms/1226.htm

HMSO office is on Bridge Street just below the tax office which is on the rhs Albert Bridge House, it is a newish building, forgotten what name is posted over!

There is PC and record books for searching all you need is to know the name, year of death and approx area they recommend searching a 3 year period...beware the Probate doesn't have to be in the area of the death...you find, you order costs £5 receipt 4/5 days later

There is a reasonable cafe on site.

What a brilliant result you have got!
