I'm trying to trace my paternal line - Gravenor

c.1880s to present - (Argoed) Monmouthshire, Wales

Pre. 1880s the Newtown area of Montgomeryshire, Wales.

I would especially like any information about the parents of Evan Gravenor born Llandinam c.1836. As you would expect, there are spelling variants such as Gravnor, Gravener etc.

Love to hear from anyone doing similar research.

Hi Hazelnut - that's so exciting and makes sense of his (Evan's) marriage certificate which gives his father as James Gravenor ... except of course I could never find anyone of that name. You're a star!

Hazelnut this is just wonderful - I have been stuck at this point in my Gravenor line for so long!! Do you have any suggestions as to why Evan might have used his mother's maiden name (rather than Morris), especially as it seems from your findings that his parents did eventually marry? Perhaps if he was illegitimate at birth and therefore a 'Gravenor' at birth, he just stuck with it?? Thank you SO much for all you've uncovered!

Hi Hazelnut, Yes, and he also called his son (my great-grandfather) Evan - so it all ties in beautifully! Bless you for all your help
