I have been asked by a friend to help with tracing his family history. Part of the family is German and part is Jewish. There is an adoption thrown in just to make it a bit harder. If anyone could give me a few pointers i would be really happy!

    Thanks

    Jo

    Hello Jo

Post the info and see what happens.....

My fried nhas researched her family and it was found that the name was changed in 1912 and anglicised ( prior to WW1).

Information is also held on |Naturalistion at the national Archives

Ok - firstly I have a marriage (1950) where the groom is listed as Alfred Wood or Aba Witenburg. Alfred Wood seems to be quite a common name so hard to find a birth record and I can't find anything for an Aba Witenburg (except the marriage).

If his real name is Aba Witenburg - should I be looking for a death in that name or the Alfred Wood name?

Is Aba a name or a shortened version of another name?

Is there anything different about Jewish adoption?

    Thanks

    Jo

    Hi Jo,

On the German side, do you know approx when they arrived in this country? I have a large German branch in my tree researched mainly in Germany by the cousin of one of my uncles. I will see if I can get any pointers from him. I will also send you a PM.
