Hi - I have been looking up a marriage and on the original image of the marriage index for the surname of the spouse it says "Wood or Witenburg". There are a few entries like this on this page of the index. Has anyone else seen this and what does it indicate? Thanks

    Hello

If it is shown against the females name it could indicate another marriage.......or the fact that the person is known by one surname but has a birth surname

I had a female relative who was shown as marrying Harry Williamson and Harry Hartley, apparently at the same time. When I received the marriage certificates I saw that it was one person: "Harry Williamson otherwise Harry Hartley". It turned out that he was in the theatre business and Harry Hartley was his stage name but he used this name in his everyday life. (I have other relatives who used stage names, even on census forms - very confusing.)

Oh - how interesting. Thespians in the family - mine are all very dull and mainly "werked in t'mill".
