I am looking for the household members in the 1891 census with a view to finding his parents. William Henry English's birth was registered Sep quarter 1878 in Bristol. There are two strong candidates in the 1881.

How have you got to this William English, have you found him on the 1911/ 1901 /1891 census ( censi!) Do you know anything else about his family...sibling names, there was a tendency to give family forenames, where did they live etc etc/
There is one recorded birth for William H ENGLISH ( Bristol ) in the time frame 1877 - 1880.
If you take the census dates:
1881 03/04/1881
1891 05/04/1891
1901 31/03/1901 the age is calculated as the age at th previous birthday, therefore this William ENGLISH would be 3/13/23 and be declared / caculated as abt.1878
On that basis, I would like to think it is William H ENGLISH son of ISAAC & MARY ENGLISH This family move to Yorkshire
In 1901 this WHE can be found living as the head of the household and widow LENTON and her small children ( he may be the father, who knows???)
The other WHE remains in Bristol and is desc on the 1901 census as a professional cricketer
