Hi, could someone tell me how to find a birth for a Joseph McGhie b 1814 Lanarkshire Scotland Please. I have done all the usual things but so far no luck. Joseph may have been named John but the only John I could find was to a Robert McGhie & Mary Short. How do I prove this is the right one?

I have his marrage to Isabella Currie 1835, no children untill Isabella Currie Mcghie 1840, John Mcghie 1848, I have them on the 1841 census but not the 1851/61. Why would there be no children before 1840? He died c 1856 as I found her on the 1861 census, I have her death cert . So hoping someone with a bit more knowledge can help me find him.

Are you saying you have the marriage cert for Joseph McGhie to Isabella Currie, does this not have his fathers name on it ?
