I am trying to connect some dots but not doing well.

In 1841(St George Hanover) Edward Tendil(1840) was living with William,Ann,Harriett,James and Matilda.22 Aug 1841 Harriett married John Williams. The 1851 census(Westminster Middlesex) shows Harriett living with her mother Ann and son William(1841).I think Edward and William are the same person.I can find no death of an Edward nor birth of a William but for the life of me I can not think why the given names would change.Jump to 1871 and Edward James Tindall shows up married. He does not seem to appear in 1851 or 1861.The family name changes from Tendil to Tindall to Lindall.Tindall is correct.

Can someone help.I want to straighten this out before buying Edward's birth certificate Jun 1840.

    Hi Ed,

The only reason I can think of for the name change is that Edward was illegitimate and John Williams took him on as his own and they changed his name. When he was old enough to make his own decisions, he reverted back to his original name.

It may sound daft, but have you double-checked that William Williams doesn't show up on the 1871 census?

    Regards

    Thanks Mrsp

There is a William Williams in 1871 that looked good but does not seem to show in 1861.There are a few lodgers in 1861 but no way to connect them to Harriett. With no likely births showing in register I am stumped--for now.I am probably going to have to order certificate. If Harriett is the mother I will be no better off.Still no death of Edward nor birth of William.

    Hello Ed

The marriage of Harriett is redorded as:

St MAry at Lambeth Banns 11/07/1841

Marriage 22/08/1841 : desc :a)both of full age of Robert Street

WLLIAMS John LAb'r bach s/o James WILLIAMS Ropemaker

TINDALL Harriett Ann sp d/o Wm TINDALL Lab'r

    he signs she marks x

    w Sarah STRINGER JsL GASSLER?surname

Harriett seems to know her surname so any deviation is a mis intepretation of what is heard & Written

I presume you are looking for a EDWARD /Edward William TINDALL B 1841 with te above mother

I have the birth certificate for Edward James Lewis Tindall 1840 and it is the wrong one.Harriett died in 1879 and her son E.J.Tindall reported the death.Edward James Tindall 1871 and Edward J Tindall 1881 I think is her son but no proof on paper. To make matters worse Edward and Rosina(wife?) do not seem to be married.Birth certificate for their son Henry James gives her name as Rosina Berryman. What a mess.
