    Hi,

Looking for the information on the father of Robert Allen.

Robert Allen c 1836 married a Mary Gowland in Stockton , Durham ,England in 1860 Ive managed to trace him down over however it his father Im having Difficulty with.Roberts father was Robert Allen , I know little else about him.

I would like to know his occupation etc or any futher info on him so I can trace my Allen line.

Robert Allen (Snr) married an Alice simpson in 1836 Stockton Durham .On the marriage entry it has Robert Allen as "Of this parish" nothing else to go on.

His son Robert was born c1836 Stockton Durham .Then Robert Allen (snr) died as his widow alice allen ( simpson) has remarried by 1841 census.

The bishops transcripts for Robert & Mary Gowlands wedding are missing from LDS site in 1860's so was wondering if anyone could look it up for it up as Im hoping the 1860's marriage may hold an extra clue in witnesses and fathers occupation??.

Up til now I have found no Robert Allen ( senior ) born in Stockton ?Any help appreciated.

    Hi fountainpen,

Have you got Robert Allen Jnr's marriage certificate? That usually states father's occupation, although in some cases, if the father is deceased it is sometimes omitted.

Also, a person's death certificate will give an occupation. Two Robert Allens died in Stockton - one in 1838 and one in 1840.

I cannot find the census entry you mentioned, otherwise I'd have a look for you, but when did Alice remarry and to who? This will enable you to narrow down the possibilities for Robert Snr's death.

Hope this helps. If you'd like me to have a look, let me know about Alice.

    Regards

    Mrsp

Hi Robert Allen senior died 1838 age 27 .

Robert Allen was the father of Robert Allen (junior). The archives have said that on the marriage entry on the Marriage of Robert Simpson Allens ( his son) the father is named as Robert above . However the mother's name is not provided in the entry.

Ive searched for a Robert allen c 1811 and have come up with nothing.

Im wondering if by buying the marriage cert above it will reveal the fathers place of birth ??

    Hello

    1860

LDS / Familysearch.org.uk site, only give the briefest of information and should only be used as a guidance in looking for your ancestors.

You have 2 alterantive to obtain the information:

    1) to purchase the marriage cert at a cost of £7 or

    2) look at the copy of the marriage entry in the Church records / Bishops transcripts BT's

    these can be found:

    http://www.durham-miner.org.uk/recor...n+Holy+Trinity

    Records pre July 1837

These are the BT's only and can be sourced on the above link.

These are other sites that may help you

    http://www.durhamrecordsonline.com/Policies.php

    http://www.joinermarriageindex.co.uk/index.php

    www.genuki.co.uk

Once you are back pre 1837 you will need these resources to continue your search back

    Good hunting

    Elsabels
