    Hi

I have posted before in regards to a George William Bush born 1841 married Clara Emma Hepworth/Healy.I have now obtained his marriage cert for 1883 in Whitechapel England and it shows George William Bush widower age 48, so that makes him born 1835 and his profession was master mariner. His father is listed as George Bush commander Royal Navy, I have tried tracing the navy connection and have only found a William Bush commander

( National Archives).I may not be looking in the right places? can anyone suggest where next I could look.

Googling George Bush is a nightmare as the us president has same name.A George Bush was captian of the Daylight that left England in 1875 to Australia.Cant find any more on this to confirm if it is our George.

    Thanks

    Hi Elsabels

I do not have any more info on birth dates apart from what I posted, George Bush jnr birth date our family had 1841, but marriage cert makes it 1835.We know nothing at all about him apart from the fact he married my great gran Clara Emma Healy/ Hepworth and only found his father name on cert. I have been on national archives.gov.uk and that is where I found William Bush navy commander, am wondering if his full name is William George Bush and he went by his 2nd name at times. The only other info we have is that George jnr emigrated to New Zealand in 1887 and a daughter Maud shows on passenger list. Maud must be from previos marriage as she was age 17.

Sorry can not supply any more than this, will try the links you gave me.

    Thanks

    Shirley

    hi

i have found this to start

1875 Voyage of the Ship "Daylight" to Western Australia

Presented here is a list of "selected emigrants" and a list of "nominated emigrants" who departed London, England on Thursday 27 May 1875 arriving in Fremantle, Western Australia on 28 August 1875 and some background and other information on the ship and voyage.

In September 1874 the Legislative Council of Western Australia decided to sponsor immigration in order to overcome the shortage of labour. A Stipendiary Magistrate, E. H. Laurence, was on long service leave in England at the time and advantage was taken of this fact to appoint him a temporary immigration agent. Laurence was supplied with a list of 220 people nominated by friends in the colony and a list of applicants requiring labour. He was authorised to charter a ship to convey 400 migrants and to make arrangements for later consignments.

He hired premises in London, communicated with the nominated individuals and several agents of the Emigration Board. He also went out to the country, addressing meetings and distributing handbills amongst friends and working men's clubs. The task was far from easy as recent similar efforts on behalf of Queensland and New Zealand had drained the numbers of potential migrants. He therefore decided to aim for his quota of migrants by sending them in instalments.

The first group of 141 migrants sailed on the Lady Elizabeth from Gravesend on 9th March 1875 with his younger brother , the Reverend Henry Laurence, who had been offered the Geraldton parish, taking passage as ship's chaplain.

The second group left England in May aboard the Daylight bringing another 160 people including EH Laurence. Although he was still below his quota, he had organised with ship owners to take further groups on subsequent voyages. The captain of the Daylight was Captain Bush

so thats your confirmation - i am Iooking for more

    hi

a bit more about the trip

On the journey there were 2 births and 5 deaths: A child born the previous day; a child of 2 years 10 months ("constipation of the bowels"), a 9 year old boy ("brain fever"); a 44 year old man ("asthma" - but was 'far gone before he came on the ship' and a sailor of about 26, injured whilst steering the ship in rough weather.

Generally the passengers were satisfied with the comfort and food supplied.

Daylight was an "A1 Clipper Barque"

    Hi

Thanks for info I have already found the info on the Daylight trip and it may be Captian Bush is our George he would have been 40 years old in 1875 as if we go by marriage cert he was born 1835, master mariner. His father is named as George commander royal navy no age. The William and Sarah you found for 1861 Kent census is a strong possible lead but again was commander bush named William George and went by 2nd name. I have found on family searc.org a George Bush born 1842( this is the date we thought he was born) with parents William and Sarah. I dont know if the 2 grankids are George's the only info we have is of daughter Maud when they emigrated to NZ 1887.

    A tough one

    Hi

In 1887 they emigrated to New Zealand and Maud shows as 17 years old so born prob 1869 - 1870. The passenger list is the only info we have on her age, dont know place of birth or mother. Have found a few Mauds but father was not George apart from one that didnt match his age or occupation. Cant be more helpful sorry.
