Thread: Searching South African roots

Can anyone give me any advise on searching for relatives in South Africa? The info I have is very sketchy, I don't even know when emigration took place... but I do have a couple of names... is it the same as the UK as regards records etc?

Any help would be great.

Hi There,

You could try starting your search at http://www.southafricahouse.com/ if emigration was from UK to S.A. ( Contact details are on left of page ). All records of emigration from UK should be held here, though you may need to provide some rough dates, and details of people being searched for.

You could also try www.nationalarchives.gov.za.

If you post the names I could take a look.

Records are not as easily obtainable as in the Uk for instance.
