am researching for a John Henaghen, born 1831 (only know Ireland), married to Mary Many (has sister Margaret) and emigrated to England (1st appeared on 1861 census in Baguley, near Manchester, England). At this time he had 2 daughters - Mary, Margaret, and 1 son - Naney(??) Calan Henaghen.

Were the Henaghens (with this spelling) originating Co Mayo ?

Any information would be greatly appreciated...

    Hello

    Marriage Manchester q1 ( Mar) 1856 8d 464 JOHN HENAGHAN = MARY MEAGHAN

    Mary HENAGHAN death Stockport 46 8a Q1 1881 aged 44

A bit of useless info, the Floats Lane Baguley area was renowned for growing Timperley Early Rhubarb until probably late 1960's when it became a housing estate!

Hi there - thanks for response ...

I have a definite trace on John Henaghen (B 1863 - 28/10/1915 ) who married Betty Hulme in 1885 at Altrincham, Cheshire. However, I'm having problems proving link with this John Henaghen to John Heneghan (spelling as in 1861 census, looks like aged 30 (but could be 50), agricultural labourer) born Ireland married to Mary. They were living in Baguley Floats Lane), near Altrincham at the time. Can't seem to find JH senior in 1871 census records....maybe passed away between times ??

Are you related to descendants of John Henaghen 1863 ?Email me.

I very much appreciate your interest.

    Hello

Instant response......I think they are.....cos I picked up the Betty Hulme marriage first....maybe he was a widower, will look for my notes made at the time and get back to you. The marriage cert to Betty should indicate staus at marriage

Me, sadly no connection it was the S Manchester that drew me to your request, I lived a couple of hundred yards from the rhubarb field.....since your mail I've remebered the family who owned them they were the Shelmerdines......They probably feature on a page near your family! A bit of useless info

    Hello

Had a look around, I cannot find JH senior after 1871 neither can I find the births reg in Cheshire or LAncs

Baguley is in one of those gray areas, bordering Lancs/ Ches

    www.cheshirebmd.org.uk www.lancashirebmd.org.uk

It looks as if the 'family' may have been in Stockport when Mary died, so info may be obtained form the death cert

There is this interesting baptism on Familysearch.org.uk

MARGARITA HENEGHAN d/o Joannis HENEGHAN & MARIA MEEGAN bp 17/05/1857 St Vincent de Paul Altrincham, no further entries, but a check of the registers may show all children bp on the same date!?

The church is about 2+ miles from their home in Baguley

Neither can I find the birth reg of JH senior, but draw the conclusion that maybe he was illegit! his marriage cert to Betty Hulme will indicate who the father is

    Goood Hunting
