Would be useful to have a location, Smith !!

Kitchin & Sharpe, Cumberland, Canada, USA : Dixon, Lancashire, Westmorland, USA
Fell & Hanslow, Warwickshire, Staffordshire, USA Australia.
Guess, Buckinghamshire : Meakins, Northamptonshire

The only way forward would be to purchase the wedding cert for their marrage:
Marriages Sep 1919 Smith Nellie M Davies Edmonton 3a 1465 which would give you her fathers name, and also to purchase Nellies birth cert. Unfortunately there are two Nellie Maud Smiths born in Qtr 4 of 1901 both in London!!
Births Dec 1901
SMITH Nellie Maud W. Ham 4a 31
SMITH Nellie Maud Islington 1b 228
The marriage cert and birth certs will help
In the 1911 census there are two Nellie Maud Smiths one living in Edmonton, the other in West Ham. Because of the copyright issues with the 1911 census I can not post details on this reply. You may wish to view them on the Find my past site, which has a pay to view option.

Out of the two, I would go for SMITH Nellie Maud Islington 1b 228. Once you have her father's name from her marriage certificate you can ask for a check before purchasing the birth ceertificate.

Thank you for your positive approach. I realize SMITH is a common name, but I was at a standstill with the info i had. Armed with your info and help from other family members, i have established that Nellie Smith lived in Edmonton, so i am on the right track!! Thanks
I tried the Edmonton one on Find my past site, but nothing came up for Nellie Smith in Edmonton in 1911 Census. I found Nellie Rose and Mellie Maud born in holloway, but not one born in Islington.

Thank you for your help. I will go ahead and get the birth cert and hopefully that will give me my leads. Great site - lots of helpful people.
