    Hi,

I have received a death certificate today and the person was living at Tonna House, Resolven, Neath. The closest placce I can find is Tonna Hospital and I think it may be the same place as the person died of 'Senilty and Senile Psychosis', and Tonna Hospital deals with that kind of thing. Problem is, he died in 1951 and I can't find out any information about when the hospital was founded etc, etc.

Has anyone heard of it or know where I can find out more about it?

    Many Thanks

    Mrsp

    Hi Bandit,

Many thanks for your reply. That's all I can find too! Every certificate we get through throws up more questions than it answers!!

    I shall keep looking!

    Thanks once again,

Hi - What was the persons name and do you have any dob detais or birthpIace? There coud be detaiIs in trade directories or there is the possibiity that a 192 search can be done. The name wiII be needed and a date and pIace but it is possibIe to find ancestors this way.Another way is eIectoriaI records but a name and a county are needed. Pm if you Iike and I can try a few avenues to kick start you off even if someone eIse compIetes.

You might find more information about this institution from the relevant local health authority or from Glamorgan Archives.

    Hi Jeuel and Bandit,

Thank you for your replies. I have searched the catalogue at Glamorgan Archives and have found that they have patient record for Glanrhyd Hospital for the relevant dates (he died there). Again, this hospital was a psychiatric one, so thins links up with cause of death. I was planning to give Glamorgan Archives a ring myself tomorrow to see how I can go about in obtaining copies of his records. I have no idea whether I'll be allowed to view them!

The death certificate is that of the ilusive Llewellyn Perkins! Hoorah! We're pretty sure it's our guy, but his death was registered by the doctor, not next of kin, and his occupation was unknown. The only reason we think it's him is because he was born in Resolven, Neath, which is where he died, and also, although his age is two years younger than it should be, there was only ever 1 other Llewellyn Perkins born around the same time and I have his death certificate already!

I am about to post the certificate on a new thread and need some help in deciphering some of the place names. It's bad enough trying to work out English place names, but I'm completely lost with Welsh ones!

    Thanks again for your help,

    Mrsp

Going into the hospital registry could make your problem easier to solve. You could find most of the information you need in there.SEO Services
