Hello all
Does anyone know how I would find out the death date of someone who committed suicide? I cannot find it in any BMD records. Would it be recorded anywhere different because it was a suicide?
Thanks for your time.

Hi Tiggy,
I'm not 100% sure, but I should imagine the death would have been registered as normal.

HI Tiggy
Have you tried Ancestry Births Deaths Marriages 1916-2005??

Hello
Thank you for replies and offer to help. The person whose death record I am trying to find is George L Stratton b 1881 Dundee. He died sometime between 1914-1918. This is going by the birth of his last child b Mar 1915 and when his widow married again in Mar 1918.The family lived in Camberwell London.
I have found several George Strattons listed on various sites but none match for age which would be 35ish.

Thank you Mark
Yes I have tried that.No luck unless the george Stratton from Southwark has his age wrongly listed, shown as 67.

It would help if you knew where he died. How did you know he committed suicide? Sometimes there is a delay in registration because there's an inquest and the coroner then registers the death. Local newspapers nearly always include a report of the inquests in their area, and sometimes - though not always - the coroner's records survive too.
