    Default lost marriage details

I cannot find the second marriage of ggfather. He: William Downing Evans of Newport, Wales, b 1811. She: Eliza Jones formerly of Oystermouth, Glamorgan, born 1822/23. In the 1861census they list a son aged 7 and we know there was also a daughter aged 8. His first wife died in 1850 so the marriage must have taken place between 1850 and 1854 but it does not appear on the St Catherine's microfiche index for England and Wales, nor on FamilyRelatives.com nor FindMyPast. Can anyone suggest what I might do next? WendyD

If its not in the GRO index you will need to contact the relevant local register office to see if they have it.

I know its frustrating - my gt grandmother married twice. I have the cert for her marriage to my gt grandfather, but her 2nd marriage isn't in the GRO indexes. I've gone through umpteen church registers. The local register office is Islington and despite my requests they just refer me back to the GRO!

    Hello

MArriage must have occurred after census 1851 as William is shown as a widower on the return.

    H107 2452

If i have read the census returns correctly were this couple Registrars of BMD? The son born in 1854 is born in Ipswich whereas the other children were born newport

just picked up your reply Elsabels. Wm was registrar of bdm at newport. Eliza came from oystermouth. I suspect son Thom and daughter Anne were hers, that she was a widow and married Wm c 1855. Their first child Louisa was born in 1856. But I can't prove any of it. According to FindMyPast no one called Thom Nicholas Evans was born in Ipswich in 1854. Any suggestions? WendyD

Dear mrsp, just picked up your reply. Now suspect second wife (Eliza Jones, born Oystermouth 1822/23) had been previously married and that son Thom Nicholas b Ipswich 1854 and daughter Anne (can't find birth, but know she died in 1871, aged 16) were hers. She and Wm must have been married c 1855 as daughter Louisa was born 1956. How can I prove this? Any help most welcome. Happy new year. Wendy
