    Default Poof.... and he's disappears!!!

    Samuel Kingston

Born c1836, he states he was born in Reading, though I find no birth appearing on the IGI.

I suspect his parents are James and Maria, but am unable to get them together.

In 1841 I suspect he is attending a girls school in Hampshire.

In 1851 there is a no show!!

In 1861 he is boarding in Reading St Lawrence.

Dec Qtr 1861 he marries Jane Turner.

In 71, 81 and 91 he is living with his family in Reading, before retiring and moving out to Swallowfield.

Last seen skulking in Swallowfield, Berkshire in 1901, pretending he's 20 years younger than he is, Samuel drops below the radar!!(

Any information about his birth or death would be so welcome.

    Thank you very much

    Best wishes

    Mark

Girls' boarding schools sometimes accepted small boys. My mother went to a boarding school that took young boys. Some were brothers of girl boarders. It seems that this arrangement was often a convenience for parents who went abroad or were posted to some distant part of the Empire. I suppose that boys' schools were not geared to coping with really young boys.

    Hello Markf

If you look at the entry's for the 1841 census you will see another male name on the register......!

Check this site re Boys / Girls schools in Odiham at the time

    www.users.zetnet.co.uk/ovenden/odiham.htm

    1851

I used another site that allows filtering and came up with

H107 1693 Down Street Wokingham Berkshire

KINGSTON Samuel H 15 Leather Cutter Reading Berks

    Thank you.

How on earth did they post him as 65? No wonder I missed him!!

It's his birth and death which intrigue me.

    Best wishes

    Hello Mark f

It depends which census site you go on as to how the transcriber has interpreted it!

His birth will be in Parish records as it occured before Sept 1837 when BMD as we know it came into being it wasn't enforcible until 1875 so some people still saw baptism as an officiaL record. www.familysearch.org select advanced then International..... ( IGI) or the record office OR looksat the parish records on fische in the Record office

    Another useful site ....www.genuki.org.uk

His death, well you only have 10 years ( 40 quarters) to search look around the page incase there is a handwritten note, try the funeral directors for the area or Parish records, Samuel was in business try www.probaterecords.co.uk

I think I would explore the family of James & Maria KINGSTON as they seem to be 'Ind' so would have the means to send their son to boarding school albeit desc as Ladies and possibly kept the daughters at home.

Look in directories and newspapers if this is your family as they appear to employ quite a number of people

    Good hunting
