    Default Bertie Blows help please

My Grandmother's grandfather Bertie Blows was born in Royston Hertfordshire in 1886, my grandmother thinks he was born on the 31st December 1886 but I cannot find a birth certificate for him nor indeed a parish birth record, any ideas what to do? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Liam

On FreeBMD there is a marriage in Dec Q 1889 Lambeth of William Blows and Mary Ann Malbert. In the 1881 census there is a Mary Ann Malbert age 14 servant in Cheshire and in Royston there is the Blowes family as above with a William age 13. On freeBMD there is Willaim Blows and Mary Ann Hopes marriage in Dec Q 1861.

Mary Ann Malbert's Birth is not on FreeBMD nor Cheshire BMD, in fact there are only 8 Malbert births on Free BMD!

Before 1890 the Boundary between Cambridgeshire & Hertfordshire ran through Royston and the registartion district included part of Essex as well!

Not an easy task to sort out.

Bertie Blows was born to William Blows and Mary Ann Hopes, I did find a christening record in 1889 but it was listed as Female Blows with parents William Blows and Mary Ann - is this a typo? or could it be Bertie's? having said that could I still get a birth record from the christening?

Have you tried looking using the name Bertram, Burt or Berty as the christen name ?

Blows Burt Royston 3a 480 1Q 1886. This might be him and the date you gran gave should have been the 31 Dec 1885.

    Hello

A copy of the baptism reocord is contained in the PR (parish record) this can be viewed / obtained from Hertfordshire record Office, County Hall Hertford SG13 8DE... the cost is usually the ophotocopy and postage!

    archives@herefordshire.gov.uk

Also try this free site www.genuki.org.uk you will need to add the county to Royston as htere are also other villages of this name.......

I looked for birth cert of the other children and cannot find. it was long considered if the event was in the PR then this was an acceptable alternative however compulsory registration of the BMD events came became law 1875, so you would reasonable expect to find the cert!

    Hello Liam

I think your response was for Milford LAdy.....

I would disregard the female entry for the PR and take it as a typo, the proof will be in obtaining a copy of the church record as shown above.....
