Default How do I trace a missing relative?

    Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help, or maybe point me in the right direction.

Some new information has come to light in my family tree.

While a family member was away during the war, his wife gave birth to a child, (we strongly believe it was a little girl), and at birth she was 'whisked away' and never heard or spoken of again.

Is there any way of tracing this person? I've tried searching the birth indexes under the mother's maiden name, but no joy, as I half expected!

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated,

    Mrsp

    Hi Elsabels,

It was during the second world war.

    hello

Needle and haystack spring to mind, have you any clues, when and where, it is likely that the 'mother' went away had the child, and likely that a private arrangement usually within the family or close friends was made...I am aware of 2 incidents where the child has been passed of as a late family addittion and brought up by grandparents in the role of parent. It is only now 60 odd years later that the child has realised what has happened!

Otherwise with v little to go on, no reasonable suggestion other than never give up looking and believe that you will get the answer when the time is right.

    Hi,

I'm pretty sure the mother didn't go away as she already had several children. In a case such as this, how did one go about registering the birth of the child?! The child definately wasn't brought up by other family members.

    Many Thanks,

    Mrsp

The baby may have been registered under the mothers married name and either the father's name was left blank or may have her real husbands name on the registration. I have seen many cases of this in the Australian Registrations.
