Thread: 1871 Census look up - Joseph Swindell/Swindle

Hi,

Can someone help me to find Joseph Swindell/Swindle born 1823 ish, Shoreditch area of Middlesex.

I have him in 1861 where he is with his wife Elizabeth and their family living in Hoxton, but I think he may be working away in 1871 because he is not with his family, and according to the census Elizabeth is not widowed (although I realise that that is nothing to go on). I have a death date for a Joseph Swindell - Shoreditch 1893 at age 72, and I am hoping this is my Joseph, and can find him in further censuses.

Would appreciate any help?

Hi Shirl,

Thanks very much for the above, I don't think this is the right Joseph because my Joseph's wife's name is Elizabeth and the above although it appears the right area of London, its a completely separate family. I was hoping to find him as a night watchman or something.

Can you find a James Swindell that may be working away at all, because I have had some confusion lately over the names James and Joseph in this family.

i saw the death too with his birth tina, i know that i had family livig in middlesex couldnt find the wife in 1851 anywere but he was living with another woman who he had 3 children with still cannot find his original wife apparently in those days ppl couldnt afford divorces so they slipped them a couple of bob and said byebye
