Hello, Is there anyway I can find out who was living at an address in the 1930's the house was called Fernlea in Heaton Moor Road in Stockport, the house was demolished in the 60's to make way for a new block of flats. If I could find this information it might be able to help me solve a real family mystery one way or another! Any advise would be really welcome!

Hi Shirl, It is Alexander Cowan, who was an optician in Liverpool and his wife Mabel. I was contacted about a year ago on Genes reunited re: Alexander by someone who thought Alexander could be his Mother's Father, his Mother was born out of wedlock as the result of an affair,and it was all hushed up! Alexander is my husband's Grandfather! My Genes contact had information that tied up with my info on Alexander, namely that he was an optician and had a brother John who was a Doctor at a hospital in Manchester area. He had a letter head from an opticians shop in Liverpool in Lord Street and a letter head from a house called Fernlea which he thought was in Stockport. It seems very likely to be the same Alexander but I have been doing family history a while now and I know the pitfalls! I thought if I could find out if the Alexander Cowan living in Fernlea also had a wife called Mabel (my husbands Grandmother) this could be a way of confirming it is the same person. Regards linda

you cud send for their birth certs which wud clarify the address and parents as you know.

as for the fernlea you would have to get hold of the name of the street in stockport

Try asking Stockport council if they have voter's lists for that address in the 1930s.

As regards who was living there in the 1930's, this will be in the voters list held ny the library and trade dirctories.
