Thread: John Davies of Sedgley

I am trying to find the parents of my maternal great grandfather, John Davies. I have a death certificate for him which states he died at Burton Road Hospital, Sedgley on 15th October 1946 at the age of 71. I have not been able to locate a birth certificate for him as there are too many John Davies born around the same time and I'm not sure which is the correct one. He married a Hannah Jane Westwood, I believe at St James the Great Church in Lower Gornal in 1899. I would be really grateful if anybody could give me any hints as to how best to go about trying to find John's parents (and their parents and so on).



PS. I am new to all this, so must apologise if I am asking a really obvious question! Thank you.

Thank you all for your helpful suggestions. I think a trip to the Records Office may be in order to confirm I've got the correct John Davies' parents! Unfortunately, I think that may have to wait until the New Year, because I don't live very close to Sedgley. I'll let you know how I get on

This is the link you may need http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/STS/ it may be Stafford RO or a loacla library that you need to visit rather than Sedgeley who may have limited records....suggest you check before you make the journey.....record all possible references to the name and the reference no appropriate to the entry, you can then retirev far more readily if you need to
