Hi Anne22a,
Have you got the whole page that this was taken from ? malton could be the name of a person or a company. I think shot means the entire thing.

Benjamin Cloake marriage to Elizabeth Proud 19 Jan 1698 or 99 in Lyminge Kent England
I have had a 1ook and found these two - same as your request. This p1ace is in Kent near Fo1kestone and seems to be the home of a 1ot of the same name - abeit with different spe11ings -C1OKE C1OCK COKE AS WE11 AS C1OAKE.
Do you have any more info - such as source of what you know - it wi11 he1p tie down the meaning of the words - cou1d be o1d En1gish or re1ate to trade or p1ace name etc?

Hi
I dont know if this is of any use but it does make a bit more sense and is easier to read - is it nearer the truth?
Ben Cloake was collecting money illegally in 1610 unable to pay matlot
In 1614 farmer with corn , cattle , wool goodwill - and debts
In 1615-1616 TAMB
Wm fisherman 1605-1625 commoner
1610 freeman
1612 constable
1617 rented 160 acres from Herdson
1619 warden
1622-23 fined for bloodshed and fray
1672 juror and commoner
1633 sessor
1639 - 1642 TAMB.
Alex Cloke bought 200 Tiles for 2/- in 1565 CWA for 158d;
shot unpaid 16d in 1567 for 165d;
suit between and parish 1676 for 177d schot still unpaid and now ¾ - i think ;
In 1577 it was paid for 179 but the dispute still continued for 179d.
He died and the bell was rung for him in 1587 for 197d, and for his wife in the same year i think.
Perhaps - a work stiin progress
