Thread: Thomas James Knapman born devon died australia

I am trying to find out more info on this Thomas James B Knapman. a kind person found me the electoral registers for queensland 1936 to 1954 showing him in moreton and griffith on his own i think.



He was born in 1902 Newton Abbot,Devon, England (know all about that part)

apparently died in 1980 in Australia

Joined the Victoria police force sept 1925 but was a labourer by 1936 in moreton queensland

anyone got any ideas on how to trace him.

Yes thanks but as i already said i know about his birth etc including the 1911 census which i paid to look at already when it first became available online. He was my grandfathers brother.



I am asking about how do i find out when he went to australia as it must have been between 1920 and 1925 which is just past the online records for crossings uk to aus, also need to find out about his death 1980 and who he married and when and kids. How do i find that info online?

The problem with doing research in Oz is that each state has different rules. Some don't release anything for 100 years including BMD's.

Have you looked through the Australian records being offered by members in the " Help offered by members forum ". That forum has it's own search engine which should help you find them also. Plus some of the Australian members also visit records offices. Both Bazza and Cherylin do Victoria records. Bazza has BMD's up until 1985.

Also, if you go to the links and tips forum and put "Australia" there, you will get lots of Australian links.

Thank you, I did ask for an aussie bmd lookup but he not on there as he lived in Queensland and they not got access to them. will try the links bit as haven't yet.

Looking through Bazza's thread he does appear to have access to Queensland but I don't lnow what years. I think it might be worth a try anyway.

Asked but his records only go up to 1929 so no good

I tried to find a death for him on Ryersons Index but no luck. This is a contemporary list of deaths and obituaries taken from Australian Newspapers. It is an ongoing project and is a huge undertaking. It already has 2 1/4 million entries. It was originally created by the Sydney Dead Persons Society and therefore has mostly New South Wales entries at over 1 million for the Sydney Morning Herald alone.
