Thread: look up please for UK Passenger returning to england

Hi All



New to this so hope I am doing this alright



Firstly i have found my great uncle Pursey READ and his wife Dorothea jessie Steward emigrated to Victoria Australia in July 1928 aboard the ORAMA.



Then i found his mother Emily READ who was still married to a Walter READ living in Bexleyheath, Kent went out alone on the HOBSON BAY to Melbourne on the 9 April 1934, indending permanent residence.



In the Erith Electoral Roll for 1934, 1935, Walter Read and Emily were both on there so i think he must have still put her name on as i can find no return to England for her, until, 1949 when she was aboard the ORONTES age 77 heading towards Woodville Avenue, Maidstone, Kent, to live with her sister in law ELiza (Read) Pilcher and family where she stayed until 1951 and then she disappears again, thinking she may now have died or gone into hospital or a home, but can find no definate date of death.



Just to complicate matters her husband Walter Read died in July 1946 and i have the death certificate and she was present at his death, so i looked for a passenger return for her but could find nothing, but i have now found a Emily READ leaving Southampton to Melbourne on the 11 November 1946 on the Ship AUTURIUS so she must have come back some time after 1934 and 1946, so can any kind soul who has access to the UK Passenger Reeturns find out when an Emily READ returned to England from Melbourne heading towards ABbotts Walk, Belxleyheath.



I would be most grateful if someone could help me solve this mystery.

Wow, what a quick response, i think you have found what i have been searching for, it now seems that Emily went out in May 1934 and returned as you have said in December 1934, and after husbands death, in July 1946 returned back out to Australia to be with her son in Nov 1946 and then returned in 1949 when she was 77.



Thanks again, you have found the last piece in the jigsaw puzzle, now to find her date of death in Maidstone, Kent.
