Default Help req with John Mortin of Chapel, Derbyshire

I am trying to trace the parents of John Mortin please, born about 1810 in Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire. He married Hannah Garside in 1832 and moved to Hayfield where they had seven children.

    Thanks,

    Barry Mortin

Chapel-en-le-Frith is on www.freereg.org.uk but I couldn't see a baptism for John Morton.

There are two marriages which MIGHT be your chap's parents:

11 Sep 1804 St Thomas a Becket, Chapel-en-le-frith, by licence

John Morten, bachelor, farmer of this parish

Nancy Goodwin, of the parish of Taxal, spinster

    or

    24 Jul 1806 St Thomas a Becket, Chapel-en-le-frith

    John Morten bachelor, husbandman

Mary Lomas, spinster, both of Chapel en le frith parish.

    Hello

Marriage date of John & Hannah 05/03/1832 Glossop

    Potential baptism

02/01/1810 ( b 06/11/1807) John s/o Joseph MORTIN & Sarah ANDREW Chapel en le Frith

07/02/1811 John s/o Henrey MORTIN & HAnnah VERNON Brearley Chapel en le Frith

10/11/1811 John MORTEN s/o Robert & Nancy MORTEN Chapel en le Frith

There appear to be a number of Morti(e) (o) n famillies in Chapel en le Frith around that time.

Maybe children's names may help, as there was a tendency to name after other family members.

Thanks for all your help on this one. Robert and Nancy Morten could be John's parents as two of his children have those names. Is there any way of finding information about them please,

    Hello

The International Genealogical Index ( IGI) compiled by the Church of the latter Day Saints (LDS) has most records on microfisch and are available at most library's.

Actual copied film of the parish records can usually be viewed at the local Record Office for the county...in this case Derbyshire, although I know some of Derbyshire records are in Manchester Central Library

The only marriage fro Robert & Nancy I can see is 1790 Glossop

    Hope this helps

    Hi Barry

For what it's worth, I agree that Robert MORTEN and his wife Nancy ROBINSON (m Glossop 2 Mar 1790) would be the parents of George (1797-1808), Sarah (b 1809) and John (1811-1848). Besides the naming pattern of your John's family, from tracing the following familes down further generations I can exclude:

John b 1807 Silkhill by Chapel-en-le-Frith son of John MORTIN and his wife Nancy GOODWIN

John b 1807 Horwich/Horridge Whaley Bridge son of Adam MORTIN and his wife Hannah TURNER

John b 1807 Combs by Chapel-en-le-Frith son of Joseph MORTIN and his wife Sarah ANDREW

John b 1811 Haylee Combs by Chapel-en-le-Frith son of Henry MORTEN and his wife Hannah VERNON

I have tried to trace the above Robert and Nancy but failed to find their origins. If you have any leads, I'd be interested.
