Thread: Am I missing something

Can someone help me sort this out please.



Thomas James Goodchild baptised 2 Aug 1857 Otterbourne, Hampshire.

Thomas James Goodchild marriage to Kezia Light 23 Jun 1878 in Otterbourne, Hampshire

Census records after his marriage show his name as James Goodchild but as his first son was named Thomas I thought this was to distinquish between them.



Today I printed off the Goodchild's born in Otterbourne from the 1911 census as all mine appear to be descended from another Thomas Goodchild born there and found this

James Goodchild, Head, 53, Married 32 years, Hants, Otterbourne

Kezia Goodchild, Wife, 53, Married 32 years, 5 children born, 5 living (I only have 4) Hants, Otterbourne

Rose Goodchild, Daughter, 19, Hants, Otterbourne

Thomas Goodchild, Son, 16, Hants, Otterbourne

Edgar Jeffries, Son-in-law, 30, Married, Married 7 years, Wilts, Salisbury

Lucy Jeffries, Daughter, 28, Married, Children 0, Hants, Otterbourne



Who are Edgar and Lucy Jeffries ?

From FreeBDM there is a Lucy Agnes Goodchild born Dec Qtr 1882 registered Winchester Vol. 2C Page 128. There is also a marriage for Lucy Agnes Goodchild married Edgar JEFFERIS Sept Qtr 1903 Registered Winchester Vol. 2C Page 249.



Also found on Rootsweb a Thomas James Goodchild married to Keziah Light with children Rose, James, Lucy A, Emma and Thomas. Thomas James parents are William Goodchild and Sarah Godwin. Don't know if this lot helps or not.



It is probable that some of the older children died and subsequent children given the same names. On the tree I found Rose was born in 1879 which I could not find in FreeBDM but there is a Rose Mary b December 1891 Registered Winchester 2C 122 which ties in with the Rose in the 1911 cencus. There is a James William born Sept 1879 2c 122.

I was taking son-in-law as meaning that Edgar was the son of Kezia. I'm not quite with it tonight. That was one marriage I didn't have. There was another Lucy that died. I have a baptism for Rose in 1892 so the 1891 is most likely the right one.

I have 6 Lucy's and for one horrible moment I thought I had them all mixed up.

No problems Star, I get like that too but mainly early in the morning when the brain has not kicked in yet. And with so many children being given the same names it makes it very hard to sort everybody out and match the right child with the right parents. Wish some of our ancestors could have been more creative with their childrens names, it would make life so much easier for those that come after.
