    Default Linghorn/Hunter marriage

Need help please. Cant find any record of the marriage between Edward Linghorn b.1847 Bristol and Sarah Hunter b.1851 Tynemouth. Have found them both on the 1871 census living in Walsend and their first child Harriet was born in 1872 in Newcastle. By 1881 they were living in Poplar, East London where they lived out the rest of their lives. Family rumour has it that they were married in Jarrow but I cannot find anything. Also Jarrow is south of the Tyne and they were living in 1871 north of the Tyne. Can anyone help to knock down this brick wall. Many many thanks

    Hi.

Thanks for that. I'm not sure if it is them but I will check it out. As Edwards surname is not common and there are a few spellings for it. I will look up where Ullverstone is on the map. I'll keep searching and thankyou so much for your help and time

ulverston is in lake district. two possible scenarios - they went there to marry as it was after the birth of their first child and they didnt want people to know they werent already married or they moved there before moving down to london area for 1881.

might be worth a punt at the marriage certificate if you know some collaborating facts eg fathers names and occupations to check it is the right one.

    Dear Welsh Lady

I think you are so right. I will order certificate today. Can I ask a question? I found the entry in the marriage records but not the surname of the groom. How did you find it. I'm so glad you did. Fingers crossed as it would solve a family mystery. Many many thanks

i use ancestry. once you have found the entry and go on the record . if you click on the page number it brings up the other people on same page and grooms name is there. same on freebmd.

hope the certificate helps. as long as you have some other correborating facts

Thanks for that. I have ordered the certificate. I do have the names of both Edward and Sarah's parents so hopefully it will tie up. Will let you know when the certificate is delivered (hopefully this year with the postal strike looming) Once again thank you for your help

p.s. I will do that on ancestry. I did not know you could. thanks

Hi. Just to let you know I received the certificate today and it is them. The fathers match up and so does Edward Linghorne's occupation. Thank you so much for solving a family mystery. They married quite a way from their home in Walsend so I wonder if they did get married on the quiet as I think their eldest daughter was already born by that date.

Once again thankyou so much for your help.

    Best Wishes

glad mystery is solved. think it is quite likely they went to get married on the quiet as they already had a child.
